Joseph Barbuto have been a part time adjunct professor since 2006. He teaches both online and ground classes. He enjoys teaching business classes such as Operations Management, Ecommerce, Principles of Business, Public Relations, Business Ethics, Management of Information Systems, Small Business Management and Marketing.
He is the President and CEO of an award winning technology company that I founded in 1999. The company specializes in implementing software and training for medical, legal and assistive technology vertical markets. They sell speech recognition dictation software, medical software and dictation equipment where they have a strong e-commerce presence. In addition, they have a brick-and-mortar location where they also operate a retail computer repair store. Among their many services they offer Internet consulting. He also owns a transcription company and can provide insight on the medical transcription industry from a global perspective. He was recently quoted in Newsday in regard to the medical transcription industry on Long Island and in India. They also have a nationwide medical billing company.
Joseph Barbuto is a consultant to small and medium sized businesses that seek help in analyzing their infrastructure to create systems and business plans. He also implements risk management strategies and design disaster recovery plans. He had served on the board of directors of two not for profit and various small businesses.
He holds both New York State Life and Health and Property and Casualty insurance broker licenses. They are partners with his wife in an insurance brokerage where he serves as an advisor.
He holds an Associate of Science degree in Business Management and Economics and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from the State University of New York (SUNY) Empire State College. He graduated with distinction from the New York Institute of Technology where he obtained his Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA). He was inducted into the business honor society Delta Mu Delta.
His career started in the manufacturing of RF / Microwave military and commercial electronics in the early 1980s as a technician. He worked on such projects as Airfone, which were the original pay phones on airplanes. He later migrated to sales engineer and then sales manager where he was a liaison between the customer and engineering for such projects as small components for the Space Shuttle and Grumman’s JSTARS (Joint Surveillance and Target Attack Radar System) project. Since then he has extensive experience as an information technology project manager in various industries, including medical software and newborn screening software for infants as well as in the banking industry. He have held positions in both small and large corporations. This has given his insight into the challenges of both small and large businesses. The list includes NatWest Bank, Citibank (as a consultant), Fleet Bank, Scientific American Magazine, and as Director of Field Services for an Internet service provider in New York City.
He enjoys photography, hiking and RVing and in the past served as a volunteer on the New Jersey Search and Rescue Team. He is SAR Tech III certified by the National Association of Search and Rescue (NASAR.org). He is also certified by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) in basic and advanced wilderness Search and Rescue.
